Salt supply, county roads in good shape so far

“It's nearly impossible to predict what a Wisconsin winter will bring, but right now Dodge County is in good shape with its salt supply despite a nationwide shortage, according to highway officials. "We had a lot of events in December, but we're in good shape as to what we have available to use. Things are so fickle that I'm not going to tell you we're set, because no one can," said Highway Commissioner Brian Field.” <more >

KSL-TV reports: "When a storm pounds the Wasatch front the army of UDOT snowplows take to the roads to try and keep the commuting public mobile. It's a tough battle when the snow is coming down hard and temperatures drop. But they do have a major tool on their side, which we often see covering our cars windshield… salt. Luckily Utah has a lot of salt mined locally, because many states have had problems getting it." The story includes good video footage.

Bettina Werner, the "Salt Queen," is featured for her salt-media art ... and her dalmatian dog ... in the new issue of American Dog Magazine
. The article explains: "Salt in various forms -- kosher salt, table salt, rock salt -- is the basis for her work. 'There is so much history behind this powerful and beautiful natural crystal,' she says. 'I wanted to bring into my art a new medium, a medium that is not tasteless.'"
