County officials report strong supply of salt
While DC are snowfighting agencies thrilled at the news that a 46,000-ton salt shipment reached the Port of Baltimore yesterday and opinions vary as to whether a "salt shortage" affect the area, crews in Lake County, IL, north of Chicago, are sitting pretty -- the result of improved salt procurement planning after facing shortages the last two winters. The Lake County Journal reports:
After coping with shortages and paying sky-high prices for road salt last winter, area municipalities are enjoying lower prices and plenty of supply this time around.
With the bulk of the winter weeks in the past, getting through the remainder of the season is not expected to bring the shortages experienced throughout the county last year.
“We’re in pretty good shape,” Lake Villa Township Supervisor Dan Venturi said. “We haven’t had the crisis we had last year.”
“We’re doing fine [with our salt supply],” Fox Lake Trustee Jack) Kiesgen said. “We’re not going to have any problem at all.”
