Is salt REALLY so bad for your blood pressure?
It's been demonised for years. But suddenly experts are asking whether we're missing the bigger picture about salt...
Jerome Burne, writing in the UK's Daily Mail on March 30, points out that a recent study suggests that by concentrating on the effects of salt we could be missing the bigger picture. That's because salt doesn't affect blood pressure on its own; it does so with another mineral we get in our diet - potassium. He feels potassium is a key to understanding blood pressure.
The Salt Institute has argued that potassium is a reliable marker for a good diet. Sometimes the pieces come together.
