Yet another study showing how salt is GOOD for you and reducing your sodium can hurt you. This time it's vulnerable children recovering from surgery who are helped by salt, and hurt by the lack of it. Ever wonder why doctors in the ER put people on an intravenous drip of saline, which is sodium chloride (NaCl), commonly called salt? Because every body needs it! This study shows salt is also vital for kids coming out of surgery. Without it, they can get a condition called hyponatremia, which means low sodium. That can literally kill them.
