WQA's Harrison warns of new state salinity rules
Water Quality Associaton technical director Joe Harrison told WQA's Salinity Task Force to expect Iowa and possibly California, to impose new limits on chloride levels in wastewater discharges, WaterTechOnline.com senior editor Tom Williams reported from WQA's annual Aquatech USA show in suburban Chicago.
Harrison "referred to the fact that the Iowa Department of Natural Resources 'is heading toward a number' for chloride levels in that state, an issue that will be the topic of hearings in that state over the next few months."
The Salt Institute and US EPA are working with Iowa's Department of Natural Resources towards a science-based number reflecting the hardness levels in Iowa's waterways.
