Seattle returns to using road salt, sees much-improved response to a big snowstorm
A Seattle Times editorial says the city's response to a recent snowstorm was much improved from its terrible no-road-salt response in December 2008. Mayor Mike McGinn benefited from policy changes made after that storm. For one thing, the city now uses salt; its ineffective no-salt policy was reversed after a lame snow effort three years ago. This time, brine and road salt were applied to major roads before, during and after the snow and ice arrived. Snow plows worked ahead of buses and cleared the way.
