About the Salt Institute
Founded in 1914, the Salt Institute is the world’s foremost source of authoritative information about salt (sodium chloride). The Institute, a North American-based non-profit salt industry trade association, advocates for responsible uses of salt, particularly to ensure winter roadway safety, quality water and healthy nutrition.
The Salt Institute’s mission is to “increase understanding regarding the contributions of responsible salt use, enabling improved quality of life, better health, and safer and more reliable transportation.”
Members of the Salt Institute are companies that produce and sell salt.
Leadership and Staff
The Salt Institute is governed by a Council of Chief Executive Officers composed of the CEO of each regular member company. The CEO Council is led by an elected Chairman and the Salt Institute staff is led by the President.
