Mark Roberts has been elevated from president of K+S's International Salt Company to become CEO of Morton Salt company.
Karl-Georg Mielke, Chairman of K+S's Punta de Lobos, becomes chairman of Morton Salt and head of K+S's reorganized global salt business.

The Institute of Food Technologists newsletter, The Weekly , reported today a new study by market research firm Mintel showing a rebound in potato chip sales. Mintel found other salty snack sales also on the rise and attributed it to the economic recession and the perception that salty snacks offer "good value."

In the diet craze that has captured our attention over the last four decades, the one plan that stands out from the rest is the Mediterranean Diet. Since the Mediterranean embraces more than 20 countries, each with its own cuisine, the diet is really a fusion of the many foods consumed by the nations bordering the sea.
Olive oil is the anchor of the Mediterranean diet. No other natural oil has as much monounsaturated fat. When drizzled on salads and vegetables or grilled fish, it adds a pleasing aroma and texture. But olive oil by itself is somewhat bland and is always accompanied by liberal amounts of salt.

The purchase of Morton Salt by German-based K+S, a major salt producer in Europe and South America, has received an antitrust go-ahead from the U.S. Federal Trade Commission. The FTC is requiring K+S to divest itself of its bulk deicing salt operations in the states of Maine and Connecticut where Morton has competed head-to-head with K+S's U.S. subsidiary International Salt Company (ISCO). Dow Jones newswire carried the story.

The Utah Department of Transportation is getting even better at storing salt used to keep the state's highways free of ice in the winter, reports the Salt Lake Tribune (Salt Lake City, UT).
A year after 33 of UDOT's storage facilities received awards for "excellence" from the Salt Institute, 41 department sites received that distinction this week at the annual Congress of the American Public Works Association in Columbus, Ohio.
