The swimming pool at Evergreen Commons senior center in Holland, Mich., is a bit on the salty side these days. That’s because the center earlier this month emptied the 65,000- gallon pool and put in a new $10,000 salted water filtering system that will keep the pool clean without harsh chemicals. The change came at the suggestion of people who used the pool but stopped after they found the bromide used in the water caused skin and eye irritation. Saltwater can also be good for helping skin conditions such as psoriasis, acne and eczema.
