USDA notes all-time number of cattle in U.S. feedlots

U.S. salt producers sell more salt for animal nutrition than for human nutrition. Those sales will likely be bolstered by the record 10.9 million cattle now in U.S. feedlots, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture -- more than a million more than a year earlier.

Salt Institute publishes revision of Salt and Trace Minerals

Since 1974, the Salt Institute has made available a comprehensive review of the animal nutrition literature in its popular Salt and Trace Minerals book. The Institute has just published the 8th edition -- the first four written by Dr. Tony J. Cunha and the latter four by Dr. Larry L. Berger of the University of Illinois. Berger has revised and updated the classic Cunha text and the 8th edition includes five entirely new chapters: Injectable Trace Minerals, Bioavailability of Trace Mineral Sources,
Inorganic and Organic Trace Minerals, Trace Mineral Antagonists, and Trace Mineral and Cadmium Toxicity.

For ease in reference and classroom assignment, chapters can be downloaded individually or the entire book can be downloaded as a single document.

And the cost makes it the best bargain of the 21st century: it's free!
