Detroit Salt (re)joins the Salt Institute

Welcome the newest member of the Salt Institute, Detroit Salt, operator of a 100-year old rock salt mine 900 feet under the city of Detroit, MI.

In a very real sense, however, Detroit Salt is not a "new" member since the company, founded in 1906, was a charter member of the Salt Institute when the Institute was organized in 1914. Other charter members include Morton Salt, Cargill Salt and North American Salt, the latter two having purchased original members. Under its current owners, Detroit Salt Company has been in operation about eight years; its business is focused on the highway deicing market.
