Angelo Brisimitzakis named to replace Ducey at Compass Minerals

Dr. Angelo C. Brisimitzakis has been named to succeed Michael E. Ducey as President and CEO of Compass Minerals, the company announced May 11th, effective immediately. Ducey, 57, had announced his impending retirement last November.

Brisimitzakis, 47, served as executive vice president and general manager of Great Lakes Chemical Corporation's flame retardants and performance products business; Great Lakes Chemical Corp. merged with Crompton Corporation in July 2005 to form Chemtura Corporation. He joined Great Lakes Chemicals in 1998 as vice president, global supply chain after 14 years with General Electric Corporation where he held leadership positions in sales, technology, business development, supply chain and business management functions.

Brisimitzakis earned a Ph.D. in chemistry from New York University and an MBA in marketing from Pace University in New York City.

2005 U.S. salt sales hit all-time high

Sales of US dry salt jumped 15.9% in 2005 to 32.1 million tons, an all-time U.S. salt sales record, the Salt Institute reported today. The Salt Institute is a non-profit association representing the salt industry in the U.S. and globally.
Salt industry revenues rose 15.8% to $1.27 billion, according to the Institute’s 2005 U.S. Salt Sales report. Figures exclude transportation costs.

Strong December highway salt sales boosted the year’s total to an industry historic high of 20.483 million tons, up 28% from 2004. Food salt also moved up strongly, recording a 9.5% gain to 1.586 million tons, also a new historic high.
