Brazil to expand salt export capacity

On Nov. 14, the Jornal O Mossoroense (Brazil) reported approval of a $10.5 million US (R$23 million) expansion of the salt-loading facilities at Areia Branca, Brazil to enable loading of 75,000-ton ships. Currently the facility can load only 37,000 ton ships. It is the largest investment in the port since it began operations in 1974. The port serves the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Norte which produces 97% of the salt in Brazil.
