Compass Minerals overcomes mild winter

Compass Minerals increased its 2006 annual diluted earnings per share from $1.62 to $1.69, the company reported February 13, despite “weather anomalies” that severely impacted its salt sales. Salt sales revenues for the 4th quarter declined 28% and for the entire year, eased 14% to $550 million. Deicing salt sales for the 4th quarter were down 43%.
