Salt Worker Safety

One of the things the salt industry can be most thankful for this holiday season is our outstanding and improving record of worker safety. We've just been notified of three facilities which have achieved significant milestones in their safety records. They inlcude:

Morton Salt, Port Canaveral, FL processing plant, 1.5 million safe work-hours without a lost time injury

Canadian Salt, Lindbergh, AL evap plant, 900,000 hours

Canadian Salt, Goderich, ON warehouse, 19 years

Salt companies have seemed to grasp that working safely makes good business sense, "dollars and cents." Apparently our "secret" has escaped. The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration has a new website for "Making the Business Case for Safety and Health" pointing out that U.S. employers are paying $1 billion (with a "B") every week for injured employees. Need any more motivation?
