Winter Maintenance Mailing List
Note: The Salt Institute neither organizes nor administers this listserv; it was organized for the Transportation Research Board by the chair of the TRB Winter Maintenance Committee, Dr. Wilfrid Nixon of the University of Iowa. We recommend it for winter maintenance professionals wishing to stay abreast of new developments and as an excellent sounding board for questions on equipment and operations.
What is it? A mailing list is a way for a group of people who are geographically dispersed but who all have e-mail addresses to discuss topics that are of common interest—in this case winter maintenance. How does it work? First, you have to subscribe to the list (see below for details as to how you do this). Once you have subscribed, then whenever any list member e-mails the list address (snow-ice@list.uiowa.edu) you will get a copy of that e-mail. So will everyone else on the list. If you reply to the list-generated e-mail, your reply will also be sent to everyone on the list (so be a little careful!). Does it take a lot of time? That depends on how many messages and topics are being discussed on the list. For a list of this type, you might get a maximum of twenty e-mail messages a week. If the number rises to more than 50 such messages a week on a regular basis, we will offer a digest service. We are nowhere near that level yet! What if I don't like it, or don't find it useful? You can unsubscribe, which is not difficult. Again, see below. OK, how do I do this?That's easy, you subscribe.

In the body of the message, on a line by itself with nothing else on that line, type the word
subscribe
You will then have joined the list.
UnsubscribingTo leave the list, send an e-mail message to:

You will then have left the list.
